Traditionally, CCTV cameras use in-camera infrared LEDs to light up scenes when it gets dark. While this does produce a black/white image, it comes at the expense of missing important colour details (such as, hair, clothing or vehicle colour) that can be vital to the validity and usability of captured footage.

How does low light cameras compare to each other?
Infrared
Infrared cameras switch to black and white mode when its sensor is not getting enough light. An infrared light emits from the camera and reflects back to the sensor to capture footage at night or low light scenes.
Starlight
Starlight technology allows CCTV cameras to capture colour footage for longer than traditional cameras. Once lighting is inefficient, the camera will switch to infrared and continue monitoring your site.
24/7 Colour
24/7 colour surveillance cameras will capture colour footage throughout the night with ample lighting. The camera’s large aperture of 1.0 and low illuminations enables cameras to let in more light into the sensor.
